You have to quit and restart after allowing screeen recording for the virtual console to work. Must be missing something, my VM Console works fine, can run Mojave as a guest with no problems. I'm not sure of the reason, but it could be, purely speculative, due to upgrading the Nvidia driver it was akin to a visit to the dentist's office, so please do not tell me to mess around again with the graphic driver. I assume it was smart enough to uninstall the older version before proceeding to installing the new version.

All is good, except the same problem above occured when I tried to start a virtual machine. Following another wise counsel, I tried:.

I see a couple of warning messages but no errors, hence baffling indeed the case of the missing and unloadable vmmon. I had a similar issue when installing VirtualBox and managed to resolve my VMWare issue using the same method.

This allows me to keep secure boot enabled and also use VMWare. The issue is that the vmware kernel module is not signed so fails to be loaded when secure boot is enabled. On Linux host with secure mode enabled, it is not allowed to load any unsigned drivers. Due to this, VMware drivers, such as vmmon and vmnet, are not able to be loaded which prevents virtual machine to power on.

To fix this without turning off secure boot, you can do the following in a terminal to self-sign the drivers:. Ubuntu Community Ask! Sign up to join this community. So if I don't open up a VM in awhile and decide to finally start one up, VMware Fusion tells me that it cannot load the kernel module 'vmmon'. I usually always have to restart my system to fix this problem, but that's becoming very annoying. My workaround in the recent past has been just to let a VM stay open and leave it running in the background. Does anyone actually know a way to fix this without rebooting?

Most of the support sites that I see answering this question just suggest running something in the terminal and rebooting, which appears to be just a temporary fix and unnecessary as rebooting alone temporarily fixes it. I'll be very much obliged for any hint how to fix this problem. Clicking the Allow button resolved the issue for me. In case anyone is running into this with VMware Fusion 6 on Yosemite I had the same issue and it seems OS X only has a limited amount of major device numbers, which are used by many different device drivers.

VMware Fusion tries to load its device drivers on app startup, so if every major device number is already occupied, the drivers won't start. Edit: I had the same issue again after using a VeraCrypt mounted image.

It looks like simply unloading a kernel extension which is using one of the major character devices is enough to get around the problem. I was running into a similar problem and upgrading from Fusion 5 to Fusion 6. I had this same problem running Mac OS Mojave If that's the case, just allow it and your VM's will work just fine.

Thanks to everyone above for contributing to the conversation and for the solutions being suggested above.
