I have no experience but desire to work. What is the best position to start at in looking for work. That is a great place to start an oil field career as you will interact with just about every other profession on the list and can decide where to go from there. As a floorhand you are the first rung on your way up to driller, typically it goes floors, motors, derrick, driller, tool pusher, and from there if you play your cards right company man consultant or rig superintendent if you feel like advancing in the company that hired you.

The oil field is the last bastion of on the job training getting you just about anywhere you want to go, the obvious exceptions are geologist and engineer although the MWD or mud engineer does not have a need for a degree just training. I have worked sights where the company many never finished a high school equivalent. I am a college graduate in business administration from Africa. Also the list is wrong in that a roughneck is a rig worker floorhand-driller and a roustabout is not a supervisory position even offshore there are pushers that lead crews of roustabouts, but the roustabout is the whipping boy of the oilfield.
